93%

particulate load reduction across a multi-pass system. 10% OPEX improvement opportunity identified.

A multi-pass system that won't go down.

A QLD energy provider's RO cooling system was being knocked out by particulate fouling. Blue Quest's multi-pass dynamic-membrane stage upstream removed the load and identified a step-change in operating cost. Independently validated by ALS Laboratories.

Challenge

A local QLD energy company was having fouling issues with their reverse osmosis equipment. The system was utilised as part of the cooling operations for the main power plant. The power plant team could not find a suitable system to remove the particulates that were the key culprit causing fouling of the RO system.

Solution

Blue Quest ran a trial based on a sample supplied to Blue Quest's facility in Brisbane QLD. All known biological matter causing fouling and disruption was identified during pre-screening trials. In a single pass of filtration the system achieved a 68% reduction of suspended solids. Subsequent passes produced 93% reduction.

Benefits

01

Multi-barrier, multi-pass system

Significant reduction in fouling-causing particulates upstream of the RO train. Reduced fouling materially extends downstream RO membrane replacement life.

02

Up to 10% OPEX reduction

With lower fouling, RO systems use less power. Other benefits include extended maintenance intervals — fewer site visits, lower consumable spend, less unplanned downtime.

03

Mobile, remote-operated

Plant can be placed on site temporarily or permanently. Designed to operate without a permanent operator. Remote-monitored and remote-operated from anywhere.

What this proves

For energy and process operators running RO trains: a Purus dynamic-membrane stage upstream is the difference between fighting fouling continuously and operating cleanly for 3-12 months between CIP cycles. The economics carry to mining, oil & gas, food and beverage, and any process where RO sits downstream of variable feed water.
